LASoundER

an installation by Hugo Desmeules

abstract:

Detecting presence is often used for scaring off intruders.

My project aims at rewarding curiosity and interaction with sounds, music, spoken words and laser.

As people cross the laser beams, the microcontroller sends commands
to the speakjet chip which transmits sounds and speech to a speaker.
A second laser beam is pointed to a mirror attached to the speaker's
vibrating skin which reflects the beam on a semi-transparent film,
creating light patterns according to the sounds played. When no presence is detected for some time, sounds will be produced to invite people to come closer.
